VISION OPTOMECHANICS SCIENTIST

30. August 2010

Ismeca is a world-leading manufacturer of machines for the inspection, testing and packaging of semiconductor and electronics devices (backend finishing), with more than 300 employees worldwide. For our Center-of-Excellence in Vision at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, we are seeking a

Vision Optomechanics Scientist

Goal

Design optomechanical modules, comprising illumination and imaging systems, for semiconductor quality inspection that will be integrated in Ismeca handlers.

Job Description / Responsibilities

You will be part of a team of vision engineers developing new vision applications for Ismeca clients. You will be required to:

  • Support and improve existing designs and develop new optomechanical modules based on your analysis of client and product-manager requirements.
  • Translate those requirements into technical specifications and conduct appropriate feasibility studies and prototyping work.
  • Provide solutions for optics, lighting, mechanics and image processing algorithms.
  • Design and develop optomechanical modules using custom and off-the-shelf components.
  • Test and qualify designs in the lab and at client site. Measure conformance to specifications.
  • Work with key suppliers to guarantee the correct manufacturing of optomechanical components and subassemblies.
  • Follow closely on market and technology trends in optomechanics to integrate the most cost-effective and performing solutions into our systems.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or conversely Master’s + 4 years industrial experience in optics, mechanics, physics or computer science.
  • Experience in the design and development of optomechanical systems for industrial vision or metrology.
  • Knowledge of geometrical optics, optical, mechanical and thermal properties of optical (glass, plastics) and structural (aluminum, steel, plastics, composites) materials.
  • Proficiency in the use of 3D CAD (Inventor,ProE, SolidWorks) and optical design software.
  • Well versed in techniques and standards for optics manufacturing and testing.
  • Familiar with Finite Element Analysis, Statistics, Design of Experiments, and scientific programming.
  • Awareness of machine-vision software and image-analysis algorithms and their use in semiconductor inspection.
  • Strong analytical skills and innovative attitude.
  • Project management skills. Manage schedules and deadlines. Communicate progress.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of your time.

You will be required to demonstrate and prove your skills on applying for the post. A series of very technical interviews will be held where you will be practically demonstrating these.
